Services
For each of the different types of quilting services described below, a free consultation will be set up to discuss and determine quilting requirements such as thread color choices, quilting type, designs, timelines and anything else applicable. Following the consultation, an estimate and document detailing the decisions will be created and sent to the customer for review and final approval prior to any work on the quilt starting. Any changes required during quilting will be identified, documented and customer approved before proceeding.

Important Quilt Preparation Reminders
General Tips
-
Fold the pressed quilt top, batting and backing neatly prior to submission.
-
Consider whether you want the color of the thread to blend with the fabric, complement it or stand out. Different colors of thread can be used for the quilt top and the backing.
Quilt Top
-
Square your quilt top.
-
Press quilt top well, ensuring seams are open or to one side.
-
For stability, stay-stitch 1/4" around edges of quilt, especially on pieced edges, borders or edges on the bias.
-
Mark the top center edge on the quilt top and/or backing fabric if the design or fabric are directional, using a pin, label or tape.
-
Trim loose threads to prevent them from showing through light fabric or catching on the machine during quilting.
-
Ensure all seams and stitching are secure to prevent catching on the machine during quilting.
-
Ensure borders are flat to prevent tucks, pleats or fullness following stitching.
-
Although it is not mandatory, it is highly recommended that the fabric for the quilt top and backing are pre-washed. Since quilting fabric is usually 100% cotton, pre-washing allows fabric shrinkage to take place before stitching is completed and removes sizing products used by manufacturers that sometimes can affect bearding of the batting through the backing fabric.
-
The quilt top must be free of embellishments that could catch on the machine during quilting
Quilt Backing
-
Ensure backing fabric is a minimum of 4 inches/10 cm larger than your quilt top on ALL sides
-
i.e. a 72" x 90" quilt top needs batting and backing a minimum of 80" x 98". I reserve the right to refuse use of batting or backing fabric deemed to be unacceptable
-
-
Trim selvage from seam lines within the backing, press open and ensure straight sides. It is beneficial to leave any selvage edges on the outside perimeter of the backing.
-
Press backing well
-
Square your backing
Quilt Batting
-
Ensure quilt batting is a minimum of 4 inches/10 cm larger than your quilt top on ALL sides
-
i.e. a 72" x 90" quilt top needs batting and backing a minimum of 80" x 98". I reserve the right to refuse use of batting or backing fabric deemed to be unacceptable.
-

Note: The quilt will be completed in the condition it is received unless discussed and agreed upon otherwise ahead of time. Additional charges will apply for pressing, seam repairs and/or removal of loose threads, if required.
